چکیده

Bound gamma globulin was demonstrated by the direct immunofluorescent technique in heart tissue from three patients with severe congestive cardiomyopathy. In two of these patients complement (,81C) was also bound to the heart muscle. Heart tissue from one of six patients who died of myocardial infarction showed a trace of bound gamma globulin, but no bound complement. During life, the heart in advanced cardiomyopathy may preferentially fix heart-reactive immunoglobulins to specific sarcolemmal and subsarcolemmal antigens, and antiheart antibody may not be detectable in the serum.

Troponin-tropomyosin abnormalities in hamster cardiomyopathy.

Cardiac myofibrils from cardiomyopathic hamsters exhibit elevated Mg2+ ATPase activity and a parallel upward shift of the calcium ATPase dose response curve. To explore the mechanism, myofibrils from control and cardiomyopathic hamster hearts were incubated with isolated troponin-tropomyosin complex (Tn.Tm) from cardiomyopathic and control hamster or from dog hearts. Tn.Tm from control hamster ...

Angiotensins and the failing heart. Enhanced positive inotropic response to angiotensin I in cardiomyopathic hamster heart in the presence of captopril.

We examined the hypothesis that the positive inotropic effect of angiotensin I (Ang I) may be retained in the presence of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors so that it may have a direct beneficial effect on the heart. Accordingly, isolated perfused hearts (Langendorff preparation) of 300-day-old cardiomyopathic hamsters (a model of spontaneous cardiomyopathy) and age-matched normal hamste...

A Defect in Oxidative Phosphorylation in the Cardiac Interfibrillar Mitochondria*

To determine whether or not an oxidative defect exists in hearts of cardiomyopathic (BIO 14.6) hamsters, cardiac tissue and subcellular organelles were studied. Using homogenates of hearts, the sarcolemmal marker, 5’-nucleotidase, was decreased, whereas the lysosomal enzymes, acid phosphatase and N-acetylglucosaminidase, were increased in the cardiomyopathic hearts compared to controls. The mit...

Decreased bioactivity of the guanine nucleotide-binding protein that stimulates adenylate cyclase in hearts from cardiomyopathic Syrian hamsters.

We investigated regulation of cardiac adenylate cyclase in 29-d-old BIO 14.6 Syrian hamsters, which inherit cardiomyopathy as an autosomal recessive trait. Pharmacologic stimulation of adenylate cyclase in cardiac membranes with isoproterenol, fluoride ion, guanine nucleotide, forskolin, and manganous ion indicated that there was defective coupling of the guanine nucleotide-binding protein that...
